July 13th to July 16th is the time to visit Gers in Southwest France for all lovers of country, folk and blues music. The Bastide town of Mirande will resound to music for 16 hours a day from many country music bands from all over the world. This is the premier festival of country music in Europe and unlike many festivals in Northern Europe, you can be pretty sure that you will be enjoying your favourite music sitting in the sun or in the warmth of a starry night. Apart from the music there is a car show, bike show, dance classes, hot air balloon rides and much more. Of course, there will be plenty of street food on offer and the local wine will be flowing. This is only one of the many festivals held in Gers during the summer months, which makes buying a holiday home in Gers or a full time home in Gers such a very good idea.

Mirande is a Bastide (fortified) small town 21km from Auch, the capital city of Gers. The architecture of half timbered houses is really stunning and the market square is a good place to see it at its best. There is also a good museum of fine art in which you can peacefully while away an hour or two if 16 hours of music just gets too much for you, not forgetting the 15th century church too. Should your visit take you over the weekend you should stay to enjoy the weekly market in Monday morning where fresh produce abounds. When planning your visit, whether it’s for the Country Music Festival or a house viewing trip in Gers, do allow time to enjoy the lovely town of Auch and to visit the pilgrimage town of Lourdes. Lourdes is certainly a trip which you will never forget, there cannot be anywhere else in the world quite like it!
