Meet The Dragon
Rhone River Dragon
13th May is the date of the Drac celebration in Mondragon. This is a medieval celebration which was resurrected more than 40 years ago and serves an important role in the lives of local people.
The dragon is reputed to haunt the Rhône river and occasionally to climb out and grab and maiden or two to take down to the watery depths with him. To placate the dragon an effigy is built and stands proudly in the centre of the town, people come and pay homage to him before he is paraded through the town with all the attendant singing and dancing. So, any ladies amongst you who end up buying a house in Vaucluse might do well to protect your lives by being present at this festival!
