Avignon Celebrates Les Nuits Flamencas
From the 18th May to the 3rd June Spain comes to Avignon to celebrate Les Nuits Flamencas. There is definitely something thrilling about flamenco dancing and it makes for an unforgettable evening spent with a glass or two of sangria. I always find it exciting to realise how close this part of France is to Italy and Spain. This coast offers an amalgamation of all that is best from the three countries bordering the Mediterranean and when you own a house in Provence you can pop over the borders for weekends away from France, no planes or boats needed!
A Day Out In Avignon
A trip to Avignon always makes for a good day out. Obviously there are the two main attractions of the Palais des Papes and the Pont St-Bénézet to see. I can recommend sitting in the square in front of the Palais at the reasonably priced restaurant where you are treated to crisp, white linen tablecloths, flowers, and lovely china, if you are like me, you will pinch yourself and wonder if this is really happening you. I must say, that is the feeling I so often get when enjoying life in France.!
After indulging in a simple but pleasant lunch you can enjoy the many sophisticated shops that the town has to offer before heading up the hill behind the Palais to sit in the gardens, high above the Palais and enjoy the splendid view as you look down on the gold Madonna of the Palais and the river winding its way to the sea. After all of this, perhaps it would be a good idea to end up in one of the charming little squares for an aperitif before heading home. Wherever you choose to buy a home in France, delightful days out like this can always be enjoyed.
