The origins of Salies-de-Bearn actually date back to the Bronze Age, around 1500 BC. At that time, the now famous salt of Salies-de-Bearn was already being extracted by evaporating salt water in ceramic pots discovered during archaeological excavations. The salt from Salies-de-Bearn was undoubtedly transported along the Pyrenean foothills via the Cami Salie, the ancient Salt Road, linking Salies-de-Bearn to Toulouse and the Mediterranean sea. Since the end of the 20th century, thermal and tourist attendance is on the rise again, thanks to the balneotherapy area, golf and the development of hotels, guesthouses and bed and breakfasts.
