The Lake District of France
Limousin Leisure Lakes
Limousin, often referred to as La France Profonde, is also known as the Lake District of France and summer is a wonderful time to enjoy the pleasures of some of these lakes. This region, in the centre of France, is a water wonderland with thousands of streams and rivers running throughout the region which feed the lakes with their pure, clear water making for wonderful swimming in the hot days of summer. If you are looking to buy a house in France I can certainly recommend you spend some time this summer viewing properties and enjoying the pleasures of the lakes.
The Largest Limousin Leisure Lake
The largest of the lakes is Lac de Vassiviere with 1,000 acres of water and 45kms of shoreline where pine, birch and beach trees dip down into the water. There are lots and lots of beaches, water sports of every kind, an island with a contemporary arts centre where you can climb to the top of the lighthouse and admire the enormous lake. Dotted all around the lake are many charming small hamlets and villages, many with little shops, cafés and bars. Summertime at the lakes is lively but it certainly has a more relaxed feel than being at the coast.
Buying your dream French property starts with Healey Fox
The second largest lake in Limousin is Saint Pardoux which has a special place in my heart having been very local to me for 15 years of my life when I had a home in France. It was always a wonderful bribe to offer friends who came down to help with the renovation – work all morning and then we will relax by the lake for the afternoons! Swimming, sunbathing, fishing, a pedalo ride followed by an ice cream were small wages to pay for, their assistance. Finding houses for clients to buy where their gardens went down to the lakeshore was also a real joy. Limousin certainly has some stunning locations for anyone looking to buy a French property.
