Summer Night Market In Dordogne
Dordogne Night Market In Eymet
The joy of summer in most of France is that the climate allows for lots of evening and night time activities. The French certainly know how to enjoy the holiday months of July and August to the full with fetes and festivals abound in every town and village. I love the night markets which I grew used to in Languedoc. However, Eymet in Dordogne has one that I have never managed to visit but having read about it it is one that I would like to add to my list of ‘things I still want to do in my favourite country’. Anyone planning a viewing trip to search for a home in Dordogne please try to fit in an evening in Eymet to enjoy the atmosphere of a summer night market. There will be loads of stalls selling local produce and lots of tastings available, artisans stalls with tempting handmade items and all the cafés and bars are likely to be overflowing with people just sitting, drinking and watching the buying and selling. The special summer market happens every Tuesday evening from 19.00 – 22.30 until the 5th September.
Buying And Living Around Eymet
If you arrive in Eymet to make a day of it before the market begins, you will be able to enjoy the medieval colombage houses, the stone arcades offering summer shade around the market square, the ruined castle and the pretty bridge over the River Dropt. This small, Bastide town was founded In 1270 by Alphonse of Poitiers as a defence against the marauding English which is rather ironic as the town has now become one of the most sought after destinations for the English tourist and home buyer. It’s a very easy place to feel at home in and for those people who fear buying a home in France because of their lack of French language, Eymet is a popular choice. In Eymet you can still enjoy the French way of life, the climate, the good value properties but find friends to whom you can speak to in English. View our Eymet property for sale
