Does The Sun Shine Everyday In France?
Buying Property With The French Summer In Mind
Much as I like all seasons in France it is in summer that I most yearn to be back amongst the lavender fields, sunflowers, pavement cafés and enjoying the outdoor French lifestyle. If you are planning to buy French property be prepared to fall under the spell of France, especially France in the summer.
Whatever happens in your future life you may always regret that you are not in France when our uncertain summers arrive in the U.K. Like me you may well find that you start to look at French property for sale all over again!
Summer Memories From Living In France
I spent 12 years living in Limousin and 10 years living in Languedoc Roussillon and despite the difference in climate between these two areas my summer memories of both areas are of lingeringly long days of sunshine and the relaxed lifestyle that such a climate offers. If you are planning to buy a French property you have probably studied the differences in climate across the country already.
Limousin, in central France, definitely does not enjoy the certainty of every day with blue skies and sun nor does it normally have the same temperatures as Laguedoc Rousillon in South West France. However I do remember that when a client whom I had helped to buy a French property described their new life in Limousin as ‘living in Camelot’ I knew what they meant. Most summer rain in Limousin fell in the night and most days between June and September were warm and sunny.
The climate did have a similarity to the U.K. at times; although on the day we planned a big family birthday picnic at the lake the temperature fell and the rain came down! We had to be a little more flexible in Limousin than In Languedoc Roussillon about big outside gatherings but still my memories are of only the occasional wet summer day in Limousin. This rainfall always brought the joy of reviving the countryside bringing the birds out to sing and enhancing the lush greens of the fields and woods and increasing the flow of the rivers allowing freedom for the fish to swim in the shallows once again.
If you are heading off to France to look at French Property for sale do make sure that you are aware of the kind of climate in the area in which you are searching. Many people I speak to think that the south of France is warm all the year around. This is not true, despite the warmth of the summer and autumn and the fact that the sun will shine on most winter days, I have certainly been colder some winter days in the south of France than in Limousin.
